    Job Summary: The Peoria Unified School District is seeking an individual who can assist the fast-paced, award-winning Communications & Public Relations Department with creative, effective, original and aesthetically-pleasing graphic design, branding and high-quality materials for a variety of media; editing internal and external communication information; reviewing materials for content and clarity; assisting in logistics for special events; and serving as a resource using multiple communication tools and web-based technologies.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES generally include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
    • Establishes and maintains organizational design and brand standards.
    • Creates original visual elements of graphic design materials, logos, images and advertising by following district's vision and brand standards.
    • Recommends strategies and delivery methods for the purpose of ensuring the consistency of high-quality school district images and messaging to enhance the district’s public relations programs.
    • Provides creative and graphics-related assistance for campaigns, events and projects, including the layout selection of colors, images and typefaces for the purpose of providing support in successfully reaching the individual goals of each project and/or the district strategic plan.
    • Uses digital illustration, photo editing and layout software to create designs for the purpose of marketing and communicating a variety of information, services, and opportunities in a professionally presented manner.
    • Produces error-free work and presents final work in appropriate format(s).
    • Works with the Communications & Public Relations team to understand district needs, recommend cost-effective strategies, and delivers concepts that follow the district's vision and brand standards.
    • Assist the Communications & Public Relations team with projects in a timely manner, being respectful of deadlines and print requirements.
    • Work cooperatively with schools and other district departments on projects, following district brand standards, project deadlines and print requirements.
    • Assist with the planning and implementation of special events.
    • Maintains graphics documents, files, and records for the department for the purpose of retaining electronic files and providing access to public relations and district staff,
    • Oversee the visual aspects of the district's social media, electronic newsletters, print documents and other communication materials, ensuring content is current and visually appealing
    • Perform other duties, as assigned, to assist the Communications & Public Relations Department.
    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
    • Knowledge of Associated Press (AP) Style Requirements
    • Knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) design requirements
    • Efficient in Microsoft Office applications
    • Skill in graphic design software such as Adobe PhotoShop, InDesign, Illustrator or other similar software
    • Expertise in graphic design layout with the ability to design multi-color work, merging text and graphics for print, web and social media
    • Ability to design charts, graphics, artwork, calendars, PowerPoint templates and other publications and materials that support the brand standards of the district
    • Working knowledge of print and online production requirements
    • Excellent written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Commercial print experience preferred
    • Knowledge of the principles of confidential files, records and database management
    • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures
    • Skill in reading, interpreting, understanding and applying relevant federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, regulations, ordinances and codes and Peoria Unified policies and procedures
    • Skill in maintaining office areas and equipment in clean professional manner
    • Skill in utilizing problem-solving and customer service techniques to direct, inform or resolve issues for visitors and staff
    • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public and others having business with the school district
    • Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associate's or bachelor's degree in graphic design, communications or related field; OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
    • Student-centered – our team makes decisions based on what is in the best interest of students
    • Experience in creating marketing campaigns
    • Work independently and in a team environment, depending on the project or task
    • Must be able to pass a fingerprint and background clearance check
    • Multi-media/video experience preferred, but not required
    • May be required to work outside normal working hours
    • May be required to lift and/or carry heavy, bulky supplies, materials, equipment and other items weighing up to 35 pounds
    • May be required to obtain and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license
