    Job Summary: Together with the Food and Nutrition Department, ensures that all cafeteria employees, students, and staff follow the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast regulations through elementary school menu development, nutrition education, and supervision of the cafeteria managers. Provides and performs a variety of tasks associated with the procurement of food, materials, supplies, and equipment for the Peoria Unified School District (PUSD) Food and Nutrition Services.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES generally include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
    • Provides training and supervisory assistance to elementary and high school cafeteria managers in the areas of personnel, labor, food quality, and customer service.
    • Delivers in-service training to personnel and develops materials for training by the managers.
    • Monitors the district’s school lunch and breakfast programs to ensure regulatory and nutritional requirements are met.
    • Develops recipes for elementary school menus, incorporating taste testing and various forms of feedback.
    • Receives and reviews USDA order forms. Determines if items are in stock. Completes USDA Orders. Reviews and inputs food orders and other items into database. Updates prices, vendor lists and other items as required
    • Visits with managers and others. Identifies issues, concerns, and/or problems with vendors, suppliers and/or other services. Works with vendors, supplies and others to resolve issues, concerns and problems. Conducts product testing.
    • Inputs food orders, requisitions and other ordering documents. Provides copies to vendors. Reviews past records and files. Discusses with managers needs to increase/decrease amount ordered. Reviews inventory and stock available. Recommends changes to ordering quantities as required
    • Identifies and contacts potential new vendors and/or suppliers. Completes annual bids for food and supplies.
    • Completes monthly inventory of all food and supplies.
    • Maintains database of nutritionals and MSDS.
    • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
    • Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, regulations, ordinances and codes and Peoria Unified School District (PUSD) policies and procedures.
    • Knowledge of the principles of bookkeeping and/or accounting
    • Knowledge of the principles of files and records management
    • Knowledge of nutritional standards, practices, and requirements.
    • Knowledge of the National School Lunch Program regulations
    • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation procedures
    • Skill in developing training materials and classes for various positions within the department
    • Skill in effective communication, both oral and written
    • Skill in reading, interpreting, understanding and applying relevant Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, regulations, ordinances and codes and PUSD rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
    • Skill in processing invoices and purchase orders
    • Skill in receiving, processing, and entering electronic requisitions.
    • Skill in maintaining electronic and manual databases and record files
    • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public and others having business with the school district.
    • Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications
    • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public and others having business with the school district

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED, AND one (1) year of relevant purchasing, procurement, clerical, clerical accounting or closely related experience; OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
    • Minimum of two years of supervisory experience in the food services industry preferred.
    • Possess or ability to obtain the Maricopa County Food Handler’s Permit and ServSafe Certification
    • Must posess an IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card and background clearance check.
    • May be required to possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license.
    • May be required to lift and/or carry heavy, bulky supplies, materials, equipment, and other items weighing up to 50 pounds.
    • May be required to work outside normal working hours
    • Must have a food handler’s card.
