Position Title: Superintendent

Supervisor: Governing Board

 Term of Employment: 12 months

Salary Classification: Contract

Job Summary:  The Superintendent has charge of the administration of the Peoria Unified School District under the direction of the Governing Board.  The person shall at all times conduct the administration of the schools in accordance with the statues of the State of Arizona and the policies set by the Governing Board.  The Superintendent is the chief executive of the District and is responsible for the overall performance of the District.

  • Administers the School District under the Board policy and is responsible for all phases of school administration
  • Attends and participates in Governing Board meetings including preparing recommendations and supporting documentation for items needing Board action
  • Acts as a liaison between the District and the community ensuring collaboration between constituents, the District and the Governing Board
  • Responsible for current and long range planning for the District
  • Responsible for school policies, plans, and programs and assists the Governing Board in its duties of legislating the District
  • Makes personnel recommendations to the Governing Board 
  • Facilitates meetings with teachers and support staff in order to discuss matters of concern and to work proactively in improving the welfare of the District
  • Ensures District activities are in compliance with Arizona State Laws, the regulations of the Arizona Board of Education and the policies of the Governing Board
  • Oversees the preparation of the annual budget and prepares presentations for the Board’s approval
  • Establishes and oversees procedures and controls for school expenditures
  • Makes recommendations to Governing Board regarding curriculum and instructions courses of study, textbooks, guides, and implementation time frames


  • Knowledge of Governing Board protocol and policies
  • Knowledge of open meeting requirements
  • Knowledge of budget preparation and administration
  • Knowledge of presentation techniques
  • Skill in applying and implementing leadership techniques
  • Skill in implementing organizational theories and principles


  • Possession of Doctorate degree preferred
  • Possession of or eligibility for Arizona certification as a Superintendent
  • Ability to clearly articulate a vision for and a commitment to improvement of services in an educational setting
  • Demonstrated leadership in all areas of academic services
  • Outstanding  skills in oral and written communication
  • Outstanding interpersonal communications while interacting with supervisors, staff, students and others


Compensation will be based on the experience and education of the successful candidate.  In addition, medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance will be provided by the District.


A twelve-month contract will be provided.  The successful applicant will assume the position on a date mutually agreed upon by the candidate and Board.
