    Job Summary: Construction worker performs a variety of specifically assigned, on-going equipment operation, masonry construction, welding and fencing building and repair related tasks functions for Peoria Unified School District (PUSD). This position is functional worker; candidates will be performing tasks. Essential Functions as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include, but are not limited to, the following tasks, duties, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES generally include the following:

    · Available to respond to telephone calls and electronic communications related to work..

    · Manage small projects that require a team for more than one day.

    · Performs other duties as assigned or required.

    · Performs heavy labor, uses hand and power tools, climbs ladders, drives trucks, etc.

    · Builds fencing and repair, performs concrete and earth work

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

    · Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, regulations, ordinances and codes and PUSD policies and procedures.

    · Knowledge of the principles of operation, maintenance and care of medium and heavy equipment.

    · Knowledge of the principles of basic construction and maintenance practices and procedures.

    · Knowledge of the principles of inventory control.

    · Skill in reading, interpreting, understanding and applying relevant Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, regulations, ordinances and codes and PUSD policies and procedures.

    · Skill in operating and maintaining a variety of medium to heavy equipment, vehicles and other items used in construction and maintenance of public facilities. Operates a variety of medium to heavy equipment such as forklifts, dump trucks, trenchers, and backhoes. Skill in operating a variety of power tools and equipment.

    · Skill in reading and following blue prints, diagrams, designs and construction plans. Ordering materials, supplies and tools.

    · Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public and others having business with the school district.

    · Skill in monitoring and complying with occupational safety and health regulations applicable to construction and electrical trade standards and codes.

    · Skill in grading and building athletic fields, block fences, sidewalks, curbs, gutters and other related work. Excavating footers for fencing, curbs and sidewalks. Excavating and back fills trenches for plumbing, sewer, gas and electrical lines.

    · Skill in fabricating, repairing and welding gates, fences, and parts. Creating forms, pours and levels concrete poured for concrete projects.

    · Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications including Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED, AND two (2) years of relevant, progressively responsible medium to heavy construction equipment operation and maintenance; OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

    · Must be able to pass a fingerprint and background clearance check.

    · Must possess at time of application and must maintain a valid Arizona driver license.

    · May be required to obtain within six (6) months of employment and must maintain a valid Commercial Driver License with appropriate endorsement as a condition of employment.

    · May be required to perform maintenance services and repairs while standing, stooping, bending, crawling, and working overhead or in trenches

    · May be exposed to dangerous machinery, potential physical harm, extreme weather conditions, hazardous chemicals, fumes, and infectious diseases.

    · May be required to lift and/or carry heavy, bulky supplies, equipment, tools, parts, and materials weighing up to 60 pounds.

    · May be required to work outside normal working hours

    · May be required to travel to perform work functions

    · May be required to use personal equipment for work related phone calls and to retrieve electronic communication (eligible for stipend).
