Until Filled Additional Information: - Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a program for speech involvement.
- Provides therapeutic program to meet individual needs of speech and hearing handicapped children.
- Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments.
- Provides thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, hearing, and language impairments.
- Provides screening to identify speech handicapped children at regular intervals & specific levels.
- Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.
- Provides appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual students’ needs and correct existing speech or language handicaps.
- Collaborates with classroom teachers and other staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the students’ daily activities.
- Provides information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.
- Provides in-service education and serves as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech improvement.
- Keeps thorough records on students receiving therapy or other school-provided speech services.
- Maintains a list of referred, screened, and eligible students.
- Assumes primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment & supplies.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: - Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of applicable Peoria Unified School District and departmental policies and procedures.
- College training and clinical experience in the area of speech and hearing.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public and others having business with the school district.
- Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Certification as a Speech Therapist/Pathologist from the Arizona Department of Education OR any equivalent combination of experience and education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: - Must be able to pass a fingerprint and background clearance check.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain an Arizona driver’s license.
- May be required to lift and carry heavy, bulky supplies and materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
- May be required to work outside normal working hours.
- May be required to travel to perform work functions.
