    Position Title: Chief Academic Support Officer

    Salary Classification: Administrative Salary Schedule – Grade 2

    Job Summary: The position is responsible for providing leadership in the development and maintenance of educational programs and services for all learners. The person has supervision over all Academic Services, which include Curriculum and Instruction, Arts Education, Professional Development, Special /Alternative Education, Federal Programs, Instructional Technology, Gifted, English Language Learners and Research and Assessment. This person reports directly to the Superintendent.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES generally include the following.
    • Administer and support the day-to-day operations of the assigned District programs.
    • Support the District’s Strategic Plan, including the identification of District needs to enhance overall District educational operations, planning and student achievement.
    • Responsible for long range planning, supervision and evaluations of all Academic Services, which include Curriculum and Instruction, Arts Education, Professional Development, Special /Alternative Education, Federal Programs, Instructional Technology, Gifted, English Language Learners, and District assessments.
    • Responsible for implementation of academic services including the curriculum, assessment, and planning process.
    • Responsible for the continuing improvement of student achievement in the District’s schools.
    • Support improvement efforts of elementary and high schools.
    • Collaborate with other departments to ensure adequate measures for student achievement.
    • Coordinate with the Chief Student Services Office on providing leadership for the overall Pre-K – 12 instructional programs.
    • Interpret all laws, regulations, statutes, rules, and policies affecting the District.
    • Provide leadership for the recruitment, selection and professional development of staff.
    • Provide leadership in the development and implementation of educational technology to support student learning.
    • Responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of Department, Federal, and State Grants, to include corresponding budgets.
    • Responsible for the District’s accreditation renewal.
    • Serve as a member of the Superintendent’s council and in their absence, represent the Superintendent.
    • Assist in drafting Board policies, administrative rules, and status reviews for the Superintendent’s review and action.
    • Attend and participate in Governing Board meetings as directed by the Superintendent.
    • Prepare updates to the Governing Board on the development of academic programs, student assessment information and other issues within the scope of responsibility.
    • Perform other duties as assigned or required.
    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
    • Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, policies and procedures.
    • Knowledge of applicable Peoria Unified School District and departmental policies and procedures.
    • Knowledge of Governing Board protocol and policies.
    • Knowledge of budget preparation and administration.
    • Knowledge of organizational theories and principals.
    • Skill in applying and implementing leadership techniques.
    • Skill in interpersonal communications while interacting with supervisors, staff, students and others.
    • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public and others having business with the school district.
    • Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A master’s degree AND eligibility for an Arizona Superintendent Certificate (Superintendent’s Certificate preferred), AND successful experience as a principal, OR any equivalent combination of experience and education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. An Ed.D or Ph.D in Education is preferred.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
    • Arizona Administrative Certification required.
    • Must be able to pass a fingerprint and background check.
    • May be required to work outside normal working hours.
    • Must have and maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license.
    • May be required to travel to perform job functions.
    • A clear commitment to the highest ethical principles; ability to serve as a role model for leadership.
    • Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptabl
