    Job Summary: The English Acquisition Services Family Engagement and Program Support Facilitator works with school administrators and staff to increase opportunities for families of English Learners to learn strategies that improve English language acquisition and increase academic success for their K-12 grade students. Provides direction, instruction, and support for educational experiences for families whose first language is other than English.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES generally include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
    • Supports schools in disaggregating academic data specific to English learners to identify areas to target for Family Engagement events and workshops
    • Trains school leadership in ways to engage families of English learners
    • Trains classified staff in effective communication strategies to assist EL families in increasing their child(ren)’s acquisition of the English language and increase academic success in all content areas
    • Works with school staff to plan, create, and implement opportunities to teach families of English learners strategies that increase the acquisition of the English language
    • Plans and coordinates family events and workshops specific to academic content strategies
    • Promotes and arranges for special activities for students and families whose first language is other than English focused on academic standards in various content areas
    • Collaborates with schools and families to determine academic needs of English learners and organizes efforts to support those needs
    • Attends/facilitates EL Family Engagement workshops as needed
    • Tracks data related to EL Family Engagement opportunities for both elementary and high schools
    • Trains school staff and parents how to use materials to support student academic gains in content areas including English acquisition
    • Maintains inventory of materials to support EL Family Engagement events
    • Performs other duties as assigned or required to promote the goals of the department
    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
    • Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, policies and procedures
    • Knowledge of applicable Peoria Unified School District and departmental policies and procedures
    • Knowledge of the principles of confidential files, records, and database management
    • Knowledge of educational, economic, social, and health needs, customs and culture of families
    • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, and the general public
    • Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications
    • Well-developed observational and record keeping skills
    • Excellent organizational skills
    • Ability to perform a variety of duties in a fast-paced environment
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A high school diploma or GED; OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

    Other Requirements:
    Must be able to pass a fingerprint and background clearance check.
    Must demonstrate fluency in both Spanish and English written and oral communications.
    May be required to lift and/or carry materials and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds.
    Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver license.
    May be required to travel to perform work functions.
    May be required to work outside normal working hours.
